New course launched for occasional Ladder Users

A new training course is fast finding favour amongst occasional users of steps and step stools in shops, offices, schools and the health sector. Delivered by the Ladder Association’s nationwide network of approved training centres, the course, Working with Steps and Step Stools, covers everything from the law, relevant standards and the latest guidance, through to potential hazards and storing and handling steps and step stools in the workplace.

It joins the Association’s existing courses ‘Ladders and Stepladders’ and ‘Ladder and Stepladder Inspection’, which saw the number of delegates increase by 47% in 2012 compared with 2011.

Lasting a minimum of 2.5 hours, ‘Working with Steps and Step Stools’ includes four assessment activities: 15 multiple choice questions; fault finding; hazard analysis and carrying, positioning and stepping on to steps and step stools. Successful candidates receive a Ladder Association certificate and LadderCard.

Comments the Ladder Association’s training manager, Stuart Hopkins: “These essential, everyday access products are in daily use throughout the country in virtually every business sector. Whilst simple in design and construction, it’s essential that users know and understand how to use them safely and inspect them properly.”
“The course provides employers with a professional but convenient means of ensuring that employees are trained and competent, thus reducing the risk of accidents in the workplace.”
